q & a: Shad Perlich
some day.Where do you draw inspiration from?
My mind is always running at “ x100” speed, which leads to more trouble in picking out which idea to go with than coming up with one.
Where have you traveled?
I lived in my car for 6 months and that lead to me going to 48 of the 50 states as well as Mexico and Canada. I also backpacked around Europe for 7 months and visited England, Scotland, Brussels, Holland, France, and Italy
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Next on the list is Cairo, Egypt!
What’s your favorite type of music?
I like most everything but hate that band Gallows [don’t know why, just do. They make me want to stab babies]. But I love the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Murder City Devils…
What do you do with your days off?
I don’t take days off. Ha ha! When I do I like to spend them with my wife if I manage to take a day off.
What are your career goals?
To hopefully be in the top 1% of tattoo artists some day.
If you weren’t tattooing professionally, what would you be doing?
Professional jetpack designer / flight instructor.
What are your major pet peeves?
Snapping gum makes me jump more than a gunshot. And I loathe my arch-nemesis: Louie Campoiano [when Louie was asked about being Shad’s arch-nemesis he simply looked confused and said, “Who?”]
Any recommendations for people getting their first tattoo?
Be open-minded, be clear of what you want and trust your artist.
What is your favorite food?
I’m on a diet.
Describe your approach to tattooing.
I take the person’s ideas or concept; then try to narrow down on what’s important. After that I focus on melding their idea with what will work so the client will be satisfied, and hopefully beyond their expectations.
Favorite story so far in the tattoo industry?
I once shit in a Frenchman’s bidet, while traveling in France. What led up that is something you can hear while getting tattooed.
